The material handling division of Godrej today ordered for Sosaley’s fLiftBMS.
The material handling division of Godrej manufactures nearly 1000 electric forklifts a year. In addition, they have a leasing division that leases out some 200 odd electric forklifts to logistics companies such as DHL, Amazon, Flipkart, etc.
The battery-powered forklifts come in various tonnage that uses 24, 48, and 80V battery banks. The battery-powered forklifts come with their own digital cluster that acts as ECU and includes telematics.
When a forklift battery gets drained, it is brought to a central location for charging. The problem is to understand which charged battery to load on the forklift. fLiftBMS’s cloud-based dashboard solves this problem with ease.
Mounted on each battery bank, fLiftBMS shows the exact charge status of each bank. The dashboard operator uses a CB Radio to call the driver and tell him exactly which battery bank to load on the fork lift. Next step to have a light indicator on the battery banks, and warn the dashboard operator if an incorrect battery bank is used.
Sosaley is working with Godrej to fine tune the Sosaley fLiftBMS to be used by forklift drivers and servicemen. The user interfaces will be reduced to simple color codes that tells the operator what to do next. Each fLiftBMS will be married to a battery bank, and will move with the bank, whether on the forklift or on the charging station.
“We are excited to see the exact status of each battery with GPS location so that we can optimise their usage and turn around each fork lift with minimum delay. We believe Sosaley’s fLiftBMS can deliver us that critical information”, said Mr. Shirzad Bethena – Head Design – at Godrej.
Godrej plans to offer Sosaley’s fLiftBMS as an OEM option with all their electric fork lifts.
About Godrej
One of the world’s largest privately-held diversified industrial corporations, Godrej celebrated its centenary in 1997. In 1897, a young man named Ardeshir Godrej gave up law and turned to lock making. Ardeshir went on to make safes and security equipment of the highest order, and then stunned the world by creating toilet soap from vegetable oil. His brother Pirojsha Godrej carried Ardeshir’s dream forward, leading Godrej towards becoming a vibrant, multi-business enterprise. Pirojsha laid the foundation for the sprawling industrial garden township (ISO 14001-certified) now called Pirojshanagar at Vikhroli in Mumbai. Godrej touches the lives of millions of Indians every day. To them, it is a symbol of enduring ideals in a changing world.
